OSRAM develops a maximum of 3.6W high power infrared LED

Introduction: OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH exhibited "Inter Opto'07" at the Messe Convention and Exhibition Center in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture from July 11th to 13th, 2007. LED "OSTAR Observation" with a maximum of 3.6W infrared, and "SFH 4730" and "SFH 4740". In terms of optical output power when inputting a current of 1 A, SFH 4730 is 3.0 W and SFH 4740 is 3.6 W. Samples will be available starting in August 2007.
Infrared LED "SFH 4740" with 3.6W optical output power

The SFH 4730 and SFH 4740 achieve high output power by connecting 10 1.0 mm × 1.0 mm infrared LED chips used in the company's original product "SFH 4230". The thermal resistance is 2.8K/W, which is much smaller than the original product's 15K/W. The package is made of ceramic material for improved heat dissipation. The SFH 4730 is different from the SFH 4740 in terms of the frame of the infrared LED chip package surface. The SFH 4730 uses a black material to suppress the reflection of infrared light. Therefore, it can be used in combination with a collecting lens or the like. The SFH 4740 uses a white material, which is easy to produce light reflection on the surface of the package, but can achieve a higher optical output power of 3.6W than the SFH 4730.

The package size is 33.0 mm x 13.5 mm x 4.6 mm. The power consumption is 24W. The emission wavelength was 850 nm.

The company's goal is to apply new LEDs to the infrared source of automotive infrared night vision systems (ie navigators). In addition, it can also be used in industrial applications as a light source for monitoring systems and safety systems. ( Original link)
