Intel established the Internet of Things Solutions Group, and appointed Doug Davis (Doug Davis) as the general manager, who is directly responsible to CEO Brian Krzanich in his work.
Intel sees the Internet of Things as a future revenue generating channel. The Internet of Things is predicted by many to be the next hot trend in the technology industry. Electric appliances such as light bulbs, temperature control devices, weight scales, and even refrigerators can be connected through the Internet of Things.
Davis said, "Ke Zaiqi said, 'I hope to focus more on the Internet of Things and help us expand our business.'"
Intel is the dominant player in the desktop, notebook, and server chip markets, but it has been slowed by half a beat in the transition to the post-PC era, allowing companies such as Qualcomm and Nvidia to establish a dominant position in the smartphone and tablet chip market.
Intel obviously does not want to be left behind. Intel has been developing a series of chips for wearable devices, the core is Intel's Quark SoC X1000 and E3800 Atom chips.
The Internet of Things Solutions Group integrates Intel's existing industrial equipment chips with Wind River business. Davis said, "We have integrated several businesses with good performance. We hope to accelerate the development of these businesses, and the Internet of Things will become a priority business."
