Leap Motion develops a new AR headset called Polaris

Leap MoTIon is developing a new AR headset called Polaris.

Since the first launch of Google Glass, the development of AR technology has grown by leaps and bounds. Since then, the technology has received a lot of attention, has been absorbed by companies and industries, and has been widely used in the entertainment field. Leap MoTIon's goal is to further advance the technology by producing its own AR headset, code-named Project North Star.

Although its handheld and finger tracking technology is best known, it has been used by many companies, such as Qualcomm, and Leap MoTIon has begun to expand into the headset business.

According to the company's blog and Twitter articles, Leap MoTIon has been working hard to develop and improve a new AR headset system that integrates the company's hand and finger tracking and the latest AR technology.

Leap Motion used the computer model to create an initial design that was built around a 5.5-inch smartphone display and used the largest reflective area. Then, using a 3D printer, a prototype was created that allowed the team to try different angles and positions for best results.

The original prototype was bulky and bulky, but it was said to provide an unprecedented field of view. The digital content seen by each eye was about 105° high and 75° wide, and the resolution of each eye was 1440×2560.

By experimenting with this, the company can find a compromise between display quality and headphone comfort, enabling a prototype model with a 95° x 70° view with 20 degree vertical (down) tilt and 65% stereo overlapping.

As Leap Motion hopes to integrate eye tracking, head-mounted light sensors, directional speakers, and the ability to dynamically move displays such as screen transparency and actuators, it is planned to further develop the system.
