In the seven major industrial sectors listed in the “Decision of the State Council on Accelerating the Cultivation and Development of Strategic Emerging Industriesâ€, the new materials industry ranked sixth.
"The new material itself is a high-tech, and it is the foundation and precursor of other high-tech. Therefore, the development level of new materials reflects the level of scientific and technological development and comprehensive national strength of a country, and it has important support for national economic development and national defense modernization. Professor Tang Jianmao, Director of the Consulting Department of the China Society for Materials Research, said: "Nothing can be separated from new materials."
“New materials are the foundation and precursor of all industries, so the technological breakthroughs in new materials often lead to some epoch-making industrial revolutions.†It is understood that in the 1960s, the emergence of high-purity silicon semiconductor materials led to large-scale integration. The circuit was realized, and humans have entered the era of electronic information.
Some experts predict that the 21st century is a century of new materials, and we can "see the whole leopard" from the competition for rare earth materials.
Due to environmental protection and national strategy, China has reduced rare earth exports year by year since 2006. At present, the total quota is only 30,258 tons. As a result, international rare earth prices have also increased. According to public information, the decline in China's rare earth exports has caused many countries to worry.
“Whether industrial or agricultural needs materials, new materials are a basic and pillar industry, and breakthroughs in materials will likely trigger a new industrial revolution.†China Materials Research Society, which participated in the formulation of new material strategic positioning plans Professor Tang Jianmao, director of the consulting department, said that “new materials are the premise for the revitalization and development of other industries, and materials are needed as support in the production process of any industry.â€
Relevant ministries and commissions revealed that the sub-planning rules for the new materials industry will be introduced at the end of the year. By then, the specific financial support, tax incentives, product catalogues and other contents in the new materials industry will be clear, and the new materials industry will also develop at a higher starting point.
At the same time, the market size of new global materials has expanded rapidly with the booming manufacturing and high-tech industries. Forecasts show that at the end of 2010, the global market for new materials will exceed 800 billion US dollars. The importance of the state and the expansion of the market scale have injected great vitality into the development of the new materials industry. Earlier, some experts estimated that the domestic market for new materials industry will exceed 130 billion yuan in 2012.
During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, the implementation of more than 100 industrialization projects has effectively promoted the development of China's new material industry with independent intellectual property rights. A number of high-tech new materials core industries have been formed in electronic information materials, advanced metal materials, battery materials, magnetic materials, new polymer materials, high-performance ceramic materials and composite materials.
Tang Jianmao said that carbon fiber composite materials are new types of lightweight high-strength structural materials, mainly used in high-end fields such as aerospace. Aircraft parts made of carbon fiber composite materials can reduce weight by 20% to 40% compared with aluminum alloys, which can generate great economic benefits in terms of energy saving. "So, in the next 20 to 30 years, it is a new era in the development of aviation carbon fiber composite materials. The use of composite materials on the aircraft will cause revolutionary changes in the entire industrial chain of the aviation industry."
The development prospects are very optimistic, but China is still full of challenges in the new materials industry.
Tang Jianmao said frankly that compared with other strategic emerging industries, the new materials industry is relatively “scattered†and has many sub-sectors. In China's industrial development, there is a distinct feature: in the same field, there are more repetition levels and redundant construction. However, in the large-scale industries that are truly leading, there are fewer companies with technological advantages, and the new materials industry is facing such a situation as a whole. "This requires national policy guidance, scientific development, resource optimization, and prevention of large amounts of hot money. This is a systematic project."
According to the "Decision", the new materials industry will vigorously develop new functional materials such as rare earth functional materials, high performance membrane materials, special glass, functional ceramics, and semiconductor lighting materials; actively develop advanced structures such as high quality special steel, new alloy materials, and engineering plastics. Materials; improve the development level of high-performance fibers such as carbon fiber, aramid, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber and their composite materials; carry out research on common basic materials such as nano, superconductivity and intelligence.
Semiconductor lighting materials: increase GDP by 2 percentage points
“The majority of new materials are functional materials, and semiconductor lighting materials are one of the important functional materials,†said Xu Luping, director of the Materials Division of the High-Tech Development and Industrialization Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Wang Jinxi, chairman of the China Lighting Society, said that the development of this industry is of great significance for the development of China's low-carbon lighting, such as the LED industry.
The LED industry currently has a penetration rate of only 5% to 7% in the entire market. In the next decade, the entire LED industry chain may form a market scale of 500 billion to 100 billion yuan. Liu Sheng, a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and a LED packaging technology expert, said, “Semiconductor lighting materials are the cornerstone of the LED industry, which may increase GDP by 1 to 2 percentage points. Such industry priority development is highly strategic.â€
The data shows that there are more than 3,000 semiconductor lighting manufacturers in China, 70% of which are concentrated in the downstream industry, and the technical level and product quality are uneven. Domestic LED epitaxial materials and chips are mainly in the middle and low range, and more than 80% of power LED chips and devices are imported.
Liu Sheng said frankly, "We have certain advantages in the application and packaging of LED. In this respect, China has a lot of intellectual property rights, and it can realize the breakthrough of the industry with the intellectual property of the application side."
Absolute rotary Encoder measure actual position by generating unique digital codes or bits (instead of pulses) that represent the encoder`s actual position. Single turn absolute encoders output codes that are repeated every full revolution and do not output data to indicate how many revolutions have been made. Multi-turn absolute encoders output a unique code for each shaft position through every rotation, up to 4096 revolutions. Unlike incremental encoders, absolute encoders will retain correct position even if power fails without homing at startup.
