70% iPad education software free: children's software account for half of the country

According to a research conducted by the marketing firm YouGov, one-fifth (17%) of iPad users said that they have more than one iPad at home, and 14% of iPad users purchased the second iPad because the first one was occupied by their children. The PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) survey shows that 70% of parents allow children to use their iPads and have an average of 8 children's apps. When parents were asked what the value of these applications was most valued, they invariably chose “education value”.

At present, there are more than 6000 applications for iPad education, of which about 70% are free. In the APP STORE educational software rankings, the top 12 preschool education classes accounted for nearly half. EF English First Education Group, a veteran education and training group, recently released the EF Children's English Vocabulary Games High Flyers iPad application software, which has been listed in the top 51 Apple App Store education applications in 51 countries.

Coincidentally, more and more primary and secondary schools have already begun to use the iPad in teaching. At Long Island High School in New York, USA, last December began to try iPads among some teachers, and chose 50 students, now 60% of the English language. Textbooks are available as a PDF for students to download. Not only has the student’s schoolbags been reduced, book printing costs have been reduced, but students have become more accustomed to reading non-paper media. Two years ago, the entire system used 17 million sheets of paper. After using the iPad, the system will save $7,000 in paper costs in the first year, and save $11,000 in the following year. Japan initiated a pilot program called "Future School", which has 3,000 students under the age of 12 equipped with tablet PCs in 10 elementary schools. The walls of the classroom are equipped with electronic blackboards that can interact with students. In Korea, wireless broadband coverage is available on all school campuses. Since 2007, the Korean Ministry of Education has implemented "digital teaching materials" in some schools. By 2012, South Korea will decide whether to distribute tablets to schools across the country.

According to industry analysts, there are several major reasons why iPad educational apps are selling well: Most applications are very new and interesting, and people’s curiosity about new technologies is also growing stronger. In addition, these applications have greater interactivity and user engagement than textbooks and workbooks.

However, there are still many debates in the industry regarding the educational significance of the iPad. From the perspective of physiological development, Zhang Xu, deputy chief physician of Peking Hospital, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, warned that the visual acuity of two-year-old children is not yet mature, and many screens on iPad and other electronic products use bright colors. The visual stimuli are too strong and too long. The gaze of time can cause children's optic nerve fatigue, and even induce myopia. Han Ande, the director of the English First Education Youth Children’s School, also suggested that parents should use it reasonably and should not be overly dependent on it. The iPad English learning application software should be used as a supplement to face-to-face teaching, instead of completely replacing face-to-face teaching. Parents should not be allowed to use the iPad for a long time. . When selecting English learning application software, parents should pay attention to the content of software learning and the academic credibility of the publishing software organization, so as to ensure the effectiveness of the use of application software learning.
