He said that the 5G SA standard was launched on schedule; it provides a reliable guarantee for the full launch of the 5G industry and commercial use in 2020. Cai Yuemin told the author that the freezing of standards ignited the enthusiasm of the entire industry chain. As an important force in the field of 5G, Datang Mobile has launched a series of 5G multi-form and multi-band products to meet the pre-commercial and commercial initial test and construction needs.
In terms of 5G networking, the future network will be a multi-layer heterogeneous network with macro-micro cooperation. Among them, the basic coverage layer uses outdoor large-scale antenna macro station mode to achieve continuous outdoor coverage and indoor shallow coverage; use miniature base stations, light pole stations and other station types to meet the needs of outdoor blind heating and indoor penetration coverage; and indoor Multimode Pico base stations meet the needs of high-value indoor coverage and other scenarios.
In terms of the core network and carrier-grade cloud platform, Datang has developed a 4 / 5G converged cloud core network based on the cloud platform and service-oriented architecture. It has participated in various tests organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and operators. The basic functions and architecture have been improved. It has preliminary commercial capabilities in terms of compatibility, flexible deployment, carrier-class reliability, and intelligent management.
Datang's efforts and strength have been fully reflected in the current 5G three-phase test of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Datang completed the indoor test of the core network and base station based on the NSA architecture two weeks ahead of schedule, and the test results reached the expected target.
In addition, according to the plan, Datang will complete the 5G SA test from July to October this year; from October to December, it will complete the 5G interoperability test.
In the selection of some key technologies and configurations, Datang is also taking advantage of TDD system design. The 2.5ms dual-cycle configuration proposal proposed by the frame structure selection that has received much attention has been accepted by the industry as a follow-up 5G test. The rapid progress of the three-stage test and good test results have shortened the 5G commercial time point. In the second half of 2018, industrial trials will also be carried out on a wider scale. In Cai Yuemin's view, the current 5G already has a solid foundation in technical standards and industry, but in the face of commercial use, it still faces many challenges and breakthroughs. First, extensive industry collaboration will become mainstream. "In order to accelerate product maturity, Datang is working closely with terminal chip manufacturers and test instrument manufacturers. Interoperability testing is being carried out intensively. It has achieved periodic connectivity with Qualcomm, Spreadtrum, Keysight and TM500, and the test will continue.
First, the industry's commercial support capabilities are still facing breakthroughs. As a prominent example, the power consumption of 5G base stations is still more than twice that of 4G base stations, which puts a lot of pressure on the power supply, cooling, and maintenance costs of the equipment room, which poses obstacles to large-scale deployment. In response to the high power consumption problem of 5G base station industrialization, Datang is also making efforts. "We hope to work with partners to break through the power consumption problem through comprehensive innovations in material technology and chip devices, and to improve the commercial level of products."
In addition, for the intelligence of 5G networks and the expansion in vertical industries, the deep integration of 5G and intelligence is the future development direction. 5G provides cloud-based intelligence with a distributed architecture from the cloud side to the end through large bandwidth, low latency, and flexible architecture. It meets differentiated service requirements in terms of computing power, response speed, collaboration range, and security policies. This is also the basis for 5G to support vertical industry expansion. At this stage, vertical industry participation is still insufficient and needs to be nurtured together.
For the management, configuration and optimization of 5G complex networks, intelligent management is the development trend. The traditional OSS needs to be upgraded and opened to support data sharing; at the same time, a new intelligent management domain must be created to provide decision support through artificial intelligence analysis for wireless big data, network slice management, network orchestration, and architecture adjustment.
