Fairchild Semiconductor announced the FMS6502 8-port, 6-output video switch array for consumer and industrial video applications such as in-car entertainment systems, HDTVs, flat panel displays and A/V receivers. The FMS6502 offers more features than the equivalent crosspoint video switch array and integrates analog switching capability, input clamps, bias circuitry and cable drivers in a single device. The FMS6502 occupies approximately half the board space of a discrete solution, thus significantly reducing component count while simplifying design. Fairchild's second-generation video switch array, the FMS6502, offers the same level of integration as previous generation video switch array technology for greater flexibility.The FMS6502 is suitable for standard definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED) and 1080i/1080p high definition (HD) video signals with an optional integrated cable driver of 0 and 6dB to drive dual video loads. The FMS6502 consumes the lowest power in its class and further optimizes system power by shutting down unused outputs. The input to the FMS6502 provides a sync-end clamp or bias option to handle synchronous or unsynchronized video signals. The sync-side clamp option sets the output sync level to 300mV (synchronous video), while the bias option internally biases the input to a 1.25V non-synchronous center signal (Y, Pb, Pr).
