Japanese companies develop "radar lights" to detect physical condition with LED lights

Japan's cutting tool maker Union Tool will begin selling the "lighting lights" of the care system using LED lights in September 2015. The LED lights have built-in radar components. The system uses radar to measure the distance between the luminaire on the ceiling and the object of care, and can instantly detect an abnormality such as a fall of the care object, and can also monitor the breathing and sleep state of the care subject. It is characterized by the elimination of discomfort and tension such as "monitored" and "wearing the instrument on the body", which is more acceptable than the care system using the camera and the human body sensor.

The U-Tools is intended to sell the system to pension agencies and nursing homes. The sales target for the first year of marketing is 300 million yen. The company held a press conference in Tokyo on November 10, 2014.

The radar light was developed by CQ-S Net Co., Ltd., which developed the remote care system using information and communication technology, and the related technology has been patented. Millimeter wave (24 GHz) radar components and wireless LAN chips are built into LED luminaires. The distance between the luminaire on the ceiling and the head of the elderly is measured by analyzing the reflected wave of the radar, and the measurement result is transmitted to the server through the wireless LAN. When the old man kneels down or falls, the distance between the ceiling and the head suddenly changes, so that abnormalities in the physical condition can be quickly detected, and the remote care institution and family members are notified.

The millimeter-wave radar component is developed by Panasonic's LSI business unit. It uses CMOS technology to integrate the transmitter and receiver on a single chip. It can accurately measure the distance between the LED luminaire and the detected object. Working in continuous wave mode. The component is smaller than the original millimeter wave radar component and is easily built into the LED fixture.

In terms of detection range, the maximum detection distance of the front side is 8 meters, and the maximum detection distance in the direction of 160 degrees is 4 meters. CQ-S Net representative director Saito Kazuo said that when the LED lamp was installed on a ceiling of about 3 m high, "the room can be covered by about 13 m2, and a plurality of people in the range can be detected."

It can also monitor breathing and sleep "radar lights" not only to detect abnormalities such as falls, but also to use the millimeter wave radar's small displacement measurement function to detect important data such as breathing state and sleep depth. "The amplitude of the ups and downs of the chest caused by breathing is about 3mm, which can be measured by the radar of 24GHz band with a wavelength of 12mm." In addition, the system can also measure the pulse technically.

The price of the radar lamp itself is about 30,000 yen, and the system is sold at a price of about 200,000 yen when it is sold with a communication server. Yuki Katsuhiko, Managing Director and Head of Business Ownership, said that “will work with a number of partners and consider what to do based on needs”.

The radar lamp has been selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan in the "Robot Care Equipment Development and Introduction Promotion Business" in 2014. The implementation period of the project is 2 years. In addition, the excellent tools, CQ-S Net, and Panasonic System LSI Division, which participate in the development of radar lights, also participated in the "Health Care Alliance" led by Nara Women's University in Japan. The three companies will perform demonstrations of radar lights at the HOSPEX Japan 2014 exhibition at the Medical Devices and Rehabilitation Equipment Exhibition held at the Tokyo International Convention and Exhibition Center from November 12th to 14th.

PufangTech has designed and produced a number of data radio modems that enable data terminal devices to exchange data from miles away. PufangTech`s radio modems can do the job faster, easier, and less expensively than stringing cable. Easy plug-and-play set-up saves installation and maintenance time.

These compact and rugged units are compatible with Modbus and Profibus so no additional converters are required. They provide a compact and flexible solution for many different long-range applications.

PufangTech`s data radio modems are particularly well suited for outdoor use under varying weather conditions. By using these data radio modems, networks become flexible, easy to expand and can cover a wide variety of solutions from simple point-to-point connections to large networks consisting of hundreds of modems.
