ON Semiconductor's latest integrated slave transceiver meets the strict requirements of M-BUS remote meter reading applications

The energy-efficient and rugged NCN5150 transceiver is very suitable for remote meter reading applications, including multi-energy meters such as heating and air-conditioning meters, electricity meters, water meters and gas meters.

September 10, 2013- ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) , which promotes energy-efficient innovation, introduced a new integrated slave transceiver for the two-wire instrumentation bus (M-BUS ) Slave device and repeater. The NCN5150 provides all the necessary functions and meets the EN 13757-2 and EN 1343-3 standards that describe the physical layer requirements for remote meter reading M-BUS applications. It is used for heating and cooling air meters, electricity meters, water meters, and gas meters.

NCN5150 provides universal asynchronous receiver / transmitter (UART) communication speeds up to 38,400 baud (baud), including programmable power up to 2 unit loads (SOIC package version) or 6 unit loads (QFN package version) Class, with an integrated 3.3 V low-dropout (LDO) regulator for external circuits. The low internal energy consumption allows the sensor to obtain more power in the application, and the low-voltage bus operation (down to 9.2 V) allows it to work in the extended M-BUS network.

NCN5150 provides SOIC-16 and QFN-20 package options. SOIC-16 is pin-to-pin compatible with devices currently on the market, but improves a variety of performances. The size of the QFN package is very suitable for more and more space-constrained applications.

The NCN5150 is designed with ON Semiconductor ’s latest mixed-signal technology, is rugged and offers a wide operating temperature range of -40 ° C to +85 ° C, making it ideal for the diverse but often unpredictable working environment common in this market . Other key features of this polarity-independent device include power-down protection, fast start-up, and the ability to power slave devices with a bus or external power supply.

Ryan Cameron, vice president of ON Semiconductor ’s industrial and timing products, said: “In the home and industrial markets, remote meter reading is a fast-growing market. The NCN5150 integrated slave transceiver utilizes ON Semiconductor ’s advanced mixed-signal technology know-how to provide these applications The required level of performance not only meets the standards, but also provides ruggedness, high energy efficiency, speed and flexibility. "

Package and price

The NCN5150 complies with the RoHS directive. The unit price of the SOIC-16 package version is $ 1.30 per 3,000-piece batch, and the unit price of the QFN-20 package version is $ 1.26 per 2500-piece batch.
