Intel plans to release a series of new Celeron processors based on the Sandy Bridge architecture in September, including desktop and mobile platforms, to replace the existing old architecture models.
For desktop platforms, the models we plan to launch are the dual-core Celeron G540 and G530 we previously reported, and the single-core Celeron G440. The 1,000-piece wholesale price is $52, $42 and $37, respectively, to replace the existing Celeron E3500 and 450.
As for the notebook platform, the dual-core Celeron B840 and B800, the single-core Celeron B710 and the previously reported ultra-low-voltage version of the single-core Celeron 787 will be officially shipped. The wholesale price of 1,000 units is US$86, US$86, US$70 and US$107, respectively. The more silent language is that the Celeron B840 and B800 have exactly the same specifications except for the 0.4 GHz higher frequency than the latter, but the price is the same.
At the same time, Atom processors will have four new dual-core products, including the Atom D2700 and D2500 for the desktop market, and the Atom N2800 and N2600 for the netbook market at prices of US$52, US$42, US$47 and US$42, respectively.
Although market analysts generally believe that Intel will completely replace the Celeron series with Atom series CPUs, it seems that Intel has finally decided to retain the Celeron classic brand to deal with AMD's new entry-level APU processors.
