Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Converter and Charger Solutions

The AC/DC charger can be either external to the vehicle or embedded inside the vehicle. The charger is connected to the battery management system. The system ensures that the battery unit is properly charged until high voltage (HV) requirements are met. HV batteries are essential for driving traction motors during operation. It can also supply 12V to other automotive modules of the car via a converter. Depending on the charging mode (slow, medium or fast charging) and technology (wired or wireless), the solution may vary.

Second, 12V battery monitoring

1. MM912_637: Battery sensor for 12V lead-acid battery with LIN interface

The Freescale MM912_637 battery sensor is a fully integrated battery monitoring device. These devices measure battery current and voltage simultaneously to accurately measure SOC (state of charge), SOH (health), and other parameters. The integrated temperature sensor is designed to be close to the battery and can measure the temperature of the battery. Multiple hardware modules dedicated to specific applications reduce MCU overhead and associated power consumption. The low power mode can be set up with automatic battery status monitoring and advanced wake-up features to further reduce power consumption. Integrated LIN 2.1 interface for communication and control of battery monitoring functions.
