After CES 2009, Ralink Technology once again brought the world's first 3x3 (3 transmitters and 3 receivers) 450Mbps 802.11n chipset to IIC 2009. Not only did the company participate in IIC in Beijing and Shanghai, but Zhan Dingzhong, its deputy general manager of IC design, also gave a wonderful speech at Shanghai. Zhan Dingzhong said that 802.11n has already shipped more than 50% of global WiFi chip solutions. "Although 802.11b / g is still the mainstream in the mainland WiFi market, there is no doubt that 802.11n is the general trend."

Zhan Dingzhong said that even with 1x1 802.11n, its throughput is three times that of 802.11g. And because the data packets and delivery time are shorter, the power consumption of 802.11n has also been significantly reduced. In addition, the technology can support more users. Finally, Ralink has also achieved the same price point as 802.11b / g. "These will promote the development of this technology in the mainland market."

The world's first 3-channel 450Mbps (3X150Mbps) 802.11n chipset brought by Ralink contains two chips. They are the dual-frequency (5GHz, 2.4GHz) transceiver RT2853 and the 3x3 system-level chip RT2883. Zhan Dingzhong introduced that the 2.4GHz band in RT2853 can be used to transfer data, but because this band is susceptible to interference (such as microwave ovens, cordless phones), this is a challenge for video content that requires a stable transmission rate, especially high-definition video applications. To this end, Ralink Technology has especially added a 5GHz band for audio / video streams.

Although compared with Atheros and Broadcom, the first semiconductor solution providers to enter the WiFi market, Ralink has no time advantage. However, this does not hinder its good performance in the WiFi market. Zhan Dingzhong particularly emphasized Leiling's technological leadership. "We will not only lag behind our competitors, but even lead the world in certain technologies." It shows its confidence in competing for future market leadership.

Beamforming and supporting Mesh Networking are two technologies specifically mentioned in Zhanding. It is reported that routers using Beamforming technology will intelligently detect the position of the receiver and change the original radiant signal transmission method to signal transmission within a certain angle range according to the position, so that the limited power is really used Signal transmission, and appropriately extend the transmission distance of WiFi signals. Due to the support of Mesh Networking (802.11s) technology, household appliance terminals using the Ralink solution can also automatically form a mesh network, and each terminal can be used as a transceiver, thereby further extending the signal transmission link between the devices. In addition, because there is more than one data transmission link between different devices, once a problem occurs in an intermediate device, the signal can continue to be transmitted through other links, thereby achieving a true self-healing function.

In the past few years, Ralink Technology has achieved impressive results in the mainland market. Summarizing the reasons, Zhan Dingzhong believes there are three. First of all, in terms of product performance, both the data throughput and the coverage area are already in the leading position in the industry. Secondly, as a company with a Taiwanese background, Leiling has an advantage in customer support due to its cultural advantages. Finally, like many Taiwanese semiconductor counterparts, Ralink also has a competitive cost advantage.
