Soxi Technology Launches Video and Communication Bridge Auxiliary Chips to Build In-Vehicle Interconnect Platform

Shanghai, May 26, 2015 — Powerful application processors from major consumer electronics chip suppliers are gaining popularity among automakers. However, since these original designs for consumer electronics chips are not aimed at automotive applications, there are few interfaces required for various automotive applications. To accommodate the continued growth in the number of automotive displays, Soxi Technologies has introduced the Companion Chip, the MB86R91 APIX®, for automotive manufacturers to interface consumer-grade processors with in-vehicle displays. Seamlessly connected vehicle interconnect platforms while reducing costs.

Fusion of consumer electronics and automotive electronics

The new MB86R91 APIX® companion chip connects to high-performance application processors via different standard interfaces such as single or dual OpenLDI (FPD-Link) and DRGB888. With a fully integrated High Speed APIX2® signal transmitter, 3 Gbps data download rate and 187.5 Mbps data upload rate, up to three high resolution remote displays can be supported simultaneously.

When connected to a general car display, it can support up to 1920x720 pixels, 24-bit color resolution, and touch information can be transmitted back. This signal provides a complete flexibility mechanism that allows system architectures with different resolutions. The integrated APIX2® receiver can connect to the video source and forward the data from this source to the application processor for processing.

The typical application of the MB86R91 APIX® Auxiliary Chip in a car can be a driving information system integrated with any programmed driving dashboard, heads-up display and central information display, and the data generated by all displays can be processed simultaneously. In addition, it is easy to integrate different combinations of rear seat display, central control panel and central information system, and provide touch screen support.

Cost savings can also be displayed on the display side

Thanks to the “Indigo” series of image controllers from Soxi Technology, the MB86R91 APIX® auxiliary chip not only saves design costs on the signal transmission side, but also saves design cost on the display receiving end: due to the continuous increase in the number of displays in the car, Reducing the cost per screen has become a top priority for automakers. The Indigo series offers a “remote control” function for on-board displays, eliminating the need for a microcontroller (MCU) for each display. Not only that, but Indigo no longer needs to add an additional local area network (CAN) and timing controller (TCON) chip for the on-board display controller.

Shipping schedule

The MB86R91 APIX® companion chip is available now, and in-vehicle system vendors have access to evaluation boards and remote software architectures to develop their own applications.
